BUSY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

SATURDAY
WORKOUT

Whew! Saturday was a tough long run. It wasn't so much the pace or the distance, but the ROAD! Denton Ferry Road has got to be the chunkiest, most unlevel, jicky-jacked road there is. I could never get comfortable on it. I'd run on the right for a while, but then I could feel my hips screaming. So I'd run on the left for a while, then my ankle was getting cranky. And it was darn near impossible to run in the middle because of the big hump in the road. BUT...all that being said...

I completed my 12.2 mile run in Zone 2 with 3 minutes of surges in zone 3 every 20 minutes. Sound confusing? Kinda. I did a lot of Garmin-looking to make sure I did everything when I was supposed too. Trying to nail those heart rate zones was a little distracting, but the group put up with me when I had to run ahead for a surge. I just doubled back for them and got it done! Running on a road that flat really makes it hard to get into zone 3! You have to run all-out.

Needless to say, my legs are feeling it today. The entire run took 1 hour and 45 minutes.

MEALS

Today was definitely a "free" day for me as far as meals go! I had a wonderful breakfast with mom at Letty's after my long run. I enhaled 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, a plate of hashbrowns and lots of coffee!!!

I also had a delicious lunch with a friend at Blackbird Cafe! Again, I was super-hungry from the run and ate an entire BLT panini and 2 lattes! It sure was good. I love that cafe!

By dinnertime, I was back to my usual: Deer Steaks and baked sweet potato "fries"

SUNDAY
WORKOUT

Sunday is recovery day, so on the schedule was 30 minutes of PRS Fit yoga, and an easy 4 mile walk around the neighborhood. Even though it was raining, I had a great walk and got to do a little praying and thinking. I love those kind of mornings! Just me and God walking in the rain. :)

MEALS

Weekends are tough to stick to a normal plan, especially when birthdays are involved!
So this morning I had a light breakfast of eggs and fruit - knowing that the family was coming over around lunchtime for dessert and coffee!

Here's my sis, Jeana, Mom and Me celebrating her birthday and dad's birthday! The entire family came over and we enjoyed a couple hours of catching up. Can you believe mom is turning 69 on Monday? And dad will be 70 on Tuesday????? That's just not possible!!!! I'm glad I have good genes!

Since we were partying, I guess you could say I had apple crumb cobbler and ice cream for lunch. (Sometimes you just have to do that!) And then dinner was back to normal: Roast and oven roasted sweet potatoes and carrots.

It's ok to relax and enjoy a few "free" meals every now and then. The key is to get back on track as soon as you can and eat as clean as you can the next several days! I've already planned out my meals for the coming week and now I can rest-assured my body will have all the fuel it needs to get me through whatever life brings my way.

DEVOTIONAL

This weekend's verses are probably familiar to all of you. But if you're like me, it doesn't hurt to be reminded that we should TRUST in Him always, and not try to figure everything out on our own! Just let God do His thing, because you know deep down He's got your best interest at heart and only wants good things for you. So TRUST in Him and relax... God's got this!

Proverbs 3: 5,6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I'm off to enjoy the last few hours of it before the Monday dreads set in...
